Developer Playtonic Games has announced the consoles that Yooka-Laylee Remastered will be coming to, and oddly enough, it doesn’t simply add “Switch” to the list, instead stating that the upcoming version will be available on “any.” debuted on Paradise Platform.
Do I smell a Switch 2 version on the cards? After all, while Nintendo hasn’t fully revealed its next-gen console after first confirming the existence of the Switch 2 in May, we know developers are now publicly developing games for it.
In addition to these Nintendo platforms – which I assume means the Switch and Nintendo’s next piece of hardware – Yooka-Replaylee (like this remaster) will also be available across platforms Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S console, and personal computer.
The game will feature overhauled animations, new and improved challenges, a new collectible currency called QUIDS, and revised controls, just to name a few.
You can watch the trailer for Yooka-Replaylee in the video above.
Playtonic Games has yet to announce a release date, but players heading to EGX this weekend will be able to try out a playable Yooka-Replaylee demo at the event.
The original Yooka-Laylee launched in 2017 to moderately positive reviews – in Eurogamer’s Yooka-Laylee review we called it “a gentle, irreverent platformer that was marred by shaky handling and a slight lack of talent.” People are disappointed”.
In hardware-related news, Nintendo recently released its motion-sensing alarm clock Alarmo. If you’re a Nintendo Switch Online subscriber, the bedside gadget is now available in the UK for £89.99.
