It’s been a few months since Crystal Dynamics announced that its beloved dark fantasy action-adventure game Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 and 2 would be getting a remake. Now, as the December release of the two-game bundle approaches, Remastered developer Aspyr has detailed some of the enhancements the new version will bring.
All this comes from Post on the PlayStation Blog This is mostly to show off the game’s bosses, so you might want to stay awake – and stay away trailer If you’re new to the series, or have forgotten all about it in the 25 years since Soul Reaver 1, read below.
However, we also got confirmation of reshaping, retexturing, and, in at least one case, reslimming to enhance the look of the original boss list, which is on top of a “completely redesigned” model of the antagonist Kane — —This is necessary to “mitigate structural problems”.
“With the increased polygon count, we felt it was important to get his look closer to the Kane we saw in the original FMV, which was more detailed and more or less showed off the originally intended character,” Aspiel said pointed out. “The original model in SR1 was specifically limited, so both games now have a Kane that looks consistent with both games.”
Of course, these new looks were at least partly expected thanks to the trailer for Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 and 2 Remastered, but Aspyr has now confirmed a number of other new features . For example, both games now include maps and compasses, which Aspr says “blends modern gaming conveniences while retaining the exploration experience the originals were known for.”
The compass “gently nudges the player in the right direction without revealing the specific details of where to go,” while the map is described as “more of a reference tool than a guide.” Additionally, there is a collection tracker that shows whether players have found all collectibles in each area. But for long-time fans who want a slightly more traditional Legacy of Kain experience, Soul Reaver 1 and 2’s remastered visuals can be switched to the original visuals, and the compass can be turned off in the settings menu.
Crystal Dynamics first hinted that it was considering a Legacy of Kane reboot back in 2022, when it surveyed fans asking if they would be interested in seeing the series return. Now, almost two years after receiving a positive response from 100,000 players, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered will be released on December 10th for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Series X/S , Switch and PC.
