Guerrilla says Killzone developer is "done" with the series and moving on to Horizon

Sony developer Guerrilla appears to have stopped developing Killzone in favor of its Horizon series.

Art director Roy Postma said Guerrilla’s decision to start working on the Horizon series was a conscious choice on the part of the developer, which would move it away from the darker, more violent Killzone games the studio was originally known for.

“As a team, we were done with it. As a studio, we needed to refresh the color palette. By choice, it was the opposite of Killzone,” Postma told the outlet washington post.

The developer is now focusing on the Horizon series, which started with 2017’s Zero Dawn.

“I think the themes this story and characters represent are relatable to all ages and people, like finding a family with friends and finding your place in the world,” the developer continued.

Guerrilla is currently preparing to release the next Horizon game – Lego Horizon Adventures – which is being produced in partnership with UK-based Studio Gobo. This brick-and-mortar take on Aloy’s story has been described as a “fun and light-hearted” take on the Guerrilla series.

“We started out making small games and kids’ games,” Studio Gobo lead game designer Toño Gonzalez said when discussing the upcoming release. This is a change for Guerrilla in many ways, Postma Adding further: “Making people laugh while playing the game, that’s new for us.”

I recently got my hands on the LEGO Horizon Adventure and had a lot of fun exploring the world in new brick form. “Yes, it’s still a ‘kid’s game’ at heart, but as a Horizon fan, I feel a lot better when I introduce my own kids to the world of Aloy… which now includes hot dogs, ” I wrote in Eurogamer’s Horizon Lego Adventures preview.

In addition to Lego, Guerrilla previously confirmed that another Horizon game, headed by Aloy, is in development and will also launch online. Netflix was also developing a TV show, but it was recently reported that the project was canceled amid allegations of “bullying, manipulation and retaliatory behavior” by showrunner Steve Blackman.
