The Day Before studio simultaneously scrapped its failed Kickstarter and announced another game

The Day Before developer Fntastic announced the day on Kickstarter in hopes of raising funds for Escape Factory, a cooperative, physics-based multiplayer escape game.

In a post shared on social media platform Therefore, Fntastic decided to delay work on Escape Factory and cancel the Kickstarter. No funds have yet been raised, the statement said.

However, don’t think the developers will actually stop there. Instead, in announcing the end of one game, it also announced the beginning of another: an “action-horror prop hunting” game called Objects.

Yes, in the same article where Fntastic admitted there wasn’t enough interest in its Factory game, it said the community had been asking for a prop hunting game, so that’s what it’s going to do now.

Fntastic added that the development of Items will “require significant resources,” so the team “decided to release the mobile game simultaneously to support that process.” It also hinted that another Kickstarter could be launched further in the future, saying “it’s important to us that our players have the opportunity to play and test the game early”.

In response to a disbelieving social media fan who mocked the developer for constantly trying to win back some favor, Fntastic said: “We know our decisions and projects may not be for everyone, but we’re working hard to create a game that we Supporters will love it and enjoy it.”

To be fair, Fntastic doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to publishing games. It finally launched The Day Before last December, after a rocky road to launch that included delays, the developer being forced to state that its game wasn’t a scam, and criticism for using unpaid volunteers. It’s even embroiled in a bizarre trademark dispute with a calendar app called “The Day Before.”

In the end, however, the day before yesterday didn’t last long. Its debut was a mess, with the studio shutting down days after the game’s release and players receiving product refunds. Fantastic announced its “comeback” last month in an attempt to refresh itself with the launch of “Fntastic 2.0.”
